Background story
Given the spate of incessant criminal activities reported across parts of Edo state of Nigeria and the attendant issues, The Comrade Show decided to galvanize Edo people and the world to support the Government and people of Edo State by helping to provide solar powered streetlights in strategic areas of security concerns.
To this end, The Comrade Show volunteers in Benin City and Edo state have been on ground assessing situations and verifying the most probable approach to this cause. The effort of the volunteers led to the identification of certain areas as hotspots that need immediate lighting attention.
The team is working to commence the pilot programme of this cause by the end of the first week of December 2020. And it is hoped that the support of the public would go a long way to helping Edo people have a more confident Christmas and New Year celebrations in 2020 and beyond.
It must be noted that this effort is to compliment government's effort and to boost Edo people's confidence in their rights to life and pursuit of happiness. Be A Light Angel
The Problem
Insecurity in Edo state account for many deaths and injuries. Many too have been maimed with varying degree of injuries from gunshot wounds to stabbings etc. Many have lost their means of livelihood to armed robbery while some have and are suffering the harsh experience of being Kidnapped. People feel so much insecurity that at 5pm, many people are afraid to go out. So, buy a light and Be A Light Angel.
The Solution
Amidst numerous solutions proffered by the authorities, solar-powered streetlights in strategic locations would help to provide the much-needed night visibility to such areas. Consequently, the team of volunteers will continuously identify areas of hotspot across the state and equally identify the number of lamps needed to sort out these areas.
We are equally working with some reputable indigenous dealers on solar lighting that will provide us with durable lamps with guarantees at a reasonable prize of ₦45,000 per each unit of streetlight.
Meanwhile, in areas we have identified as hotspots, we are reaching out to the corresponding local council management to inform them of our cause, purpose and programme with a view to avoiding working at cross purposes. So, support this project. Buy a light and Be A Light Angel.
